Great Game – Biden on charm offensive

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Great Game. This week, all eyes are on Asia with a series of high-level summits taking place across the continent. Both U.S. President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris will be flying out to attend in person, but what’s at stake and what are they trying to accomplish? Let’s dive in!

G-20 Power Tussle

First and foremost, Joe Biden will be headed to New Delhi for the G-20 Summit. The G-20 summit is a meeting of the 20 largest economies – usually represented by heads of state or governments – i.e. Presidents and Prime Ministers. This year is no exception and this makes the G-20 summit an extremely important venue for global deliberation and diplomacy.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the organization for the past year and has put a firm emphasis on Global South and developing countries issues. This is marked by the invites sent to new Nigerian President Tinubu, Egyptian President al-Sisi and the current chairman of the African Union Azali Assoumani.

But back to Biden. I think
